Founding Story

A First-of-Its-Kind Initiative

When the Hydrogen Council launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2017, it was the first initiative of its kind in the world – and still is. Comprised initially of 13 leaders from the energy, transportation and manufacturing sectors, in just over five years, the Council now includes 140 multinational companies representing the entire hydrogen value chain.

The Hydrogen Council is a global CEO-led initiative that brings together leading companies with a united vision and ambition for hydrogen to accelerate the clean energy transition. The Council is committed to unlocking the sustainability potential of hydrogen through coalitions for action, boosting sustainable economic growth, creating quality jobs, and delivering social value.

Using its global reach to promote collaboration between industry, governments, investors, and civil society, the Council provides insights on and pathways for accelerating the deployment of hydrogen ecosystems around the world. It also supports the development of international safety and sustainability standards, paving the way for the deployment of reliable hydrogen solutions at scale.

The Hydrogen Council brings together a diverse group of 140 companies from North America to Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa and MENA region, across the entire hydrogen value chain, including large multinationals, innovative SMEs, and investors.

Increase Visibility

To increase visibility and recognition that hydrogen is a critical tool for energy systems decarbonization.

Promote Progress

To identify and unlock impediments to progress in the realization of the great potential that hydrogen solutions bring to the pressing problems of our day including decarbonization, energy security, resilience and sustainability.

Foster Collaboration

To work with and provide recommendations to key stakeholders, such as policy makers, the business community, international agencies and civil society to achieve meet shared climate goals.

What We Do

Bringing together the right people,

Provide a high-level vision for the essential role of hydrogen for an energy transition, the plan to deliver this ambition worldwide, and the challenges to overcome for large scale deployment.

Coordinate and fund studies about hydrogen to provide concrete data and facts to support the further development of the hydrogen industry, and serve as a point of reference for key stakeholders worldwide.

Collaborate with and complement work being done by key regional partners in Europe, Asia, Oceania and the Americas to create strong, global action.

Work alongside the global investment community, with the understanding that transitioning towards a low-carbon economy will need nothing less than a paradigm shift and will require large scale investments.
