Become a
Member
Any company that works in the hydrogen space can apply to join the Hydrogen Council. Since the Council is a CEO-led initiative, CEO/C-suite level commitment is critical.
Membership Types
The Council offers three membership options.
Steering Membership
Steering Members are involved in the strategic decision processes of the Hydrogen Council.
Criteria
- Align with the purposes of the Council and commitment to the activities of the Council
- Are active in the hydrogen technology industry
- Have a significant global reach (considering all affiliates, subsidiaries, and other companies in the relevant group)
- Have business compatibility with fuel cell and other hydrogen energy technologies
Benefits
- Lead Council activities and have voting rights
- Participate in private meetings and sessions during the annual CEO Event
- Define strategies and steer all advocacy, research, and communications programs
- Represent the Council externally at events and in the media
- Access to all activities and information, including the CEO portion of Hydrogen Council annual meetings
Commitments
- Participate in various Hydrogen Council project teams and make a contribution to the program delivery
- Participate in the annual CEO meeting at CEO-level
- Commit to a 3-year membership
Supporting Members
Supporting Members can participate in all project teams and benefit from the visibility of the initiative as well as current partnerships, but are not involved in the strategic decision processes.
Criteria
- Align with the purpose of the Council
- Commit to the activities of the Council
- Have a strong interest in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies
Benefits
- Participate in Project Teams and studies, implementing strategies as defined by Hydrogen Council CEOs
- Be informed of Hydrogen Council progress and updates
- Contribute to workshops, interviews, key events etc.
- Participate in open and semi-private sessions at the annual CEO meeting and other specific events
- Be invited on an ad hoc basis as testimonial speakers to Hydrogen Council events
- Access to all studies and data at no additional cost
- Enjoy the visibility of the initiative and network with other members
Commitments
- Commit to a 1-year membership
- Commit to join the annual CEO meeting at CEO-level
Investor Group
The Investor Group is a sub-category of Supporting membership open to banks, investment funds and other financial institutions.
Criteria
- Align with the purpose of the Council
- Commit to join the annual CEO meeting at CEO-level
- Have a strong interest in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies
Benefits
- Stay informed on Hydrogen Council progress and updates
- Access to and continued engagement with key industrial players in the hydrogen sector
- Contribute to workshops, interviews, key events etc.
- Be systematically invited to open and semi-closed sessions at the annual CEO meeting and other specific events
Commitments
- Commit to a 3-year membership
- Provide expert input via the Council’s Hydrogen Marketplace project team

How much does membership cost?
Membership fees are set by the Internal Rules of Hydrogen Council and differ per membership category.
How are applications assessed?
The Hydrogen Council assesses membership applications using a variety of criteria. As a global association, it is in our interest to keep a geographical balance among our members and to represent all hydrogen-related economic sectors equally.
How long does the application process take?
We are currently receiving an unprecedented number of membership requests. We assess all membership requests very carefully, which means that a typical process may take several weeks. Please rest assured that every application submitted is reviewed carefully, and the Council is committed to communicating with all applicants as soon as reasonably possible.
Can a member change its membership type?
Members who are interested in changing their membership level can apply to do so. This request requires the same assessment and the same approval process as any new application.
