Job Opportunity: Policy & Advocacy Officer

The Hydrogen Council is recruiting an organized and driven Policy & Advocacy Officer to contribute to its mission.

The Hydrogen Council, the world’s largest and only CEO-led global alliance comprising leading businesses and investors in hydrogen, is recruiting a Policy & Advocacy Officer to join its growing team.

The role sits at the centre of the Hydrogen Council’s policy and advocacy activities, offering a unique opportunity to strengthen the Council’s engagement on key issues across priority jurisdictions globally.

We are looking for a highly structured, organized and driven professional with a strong service mindset and interest in energy and climate issues as well as willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic global environment.

As the Policy & Advocacy Officer, you will report to the Head of Policy & Advocacy and work closely with our global team based across Belgium, Germany, Spain and the UK, as well as our member companies, partners and vendors around the world.

Key responsibilities

Contribute to the work of the Hydrogen Council’s Policy & Advocacy workstream, especially through the following:

Strategies and Workplans:

  • Contribute to the shaping of Hydrogen Council policy and advocacy strategies and work plans, in close collaboration with relevant members and teams

Projects and Campaigns:

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of highly collaborative, integrated policy and advocacy campaigns to deliver tangible results against set priorities

Advocacy Committee:

  • Support the day-to-day work of the Council’s Advocacy Committee, including preparation of meetings with member companies and topical webinars with external stakeholders
  • Manage the planning tools to ensure the smooth running of the Committee activities

Policy Monitoring and Resources:

  • Monitor and provide action-oriented updates on relevant global policy and legislative developments based on the Council priority focus areas
  • Develop and update the necessary tools such as issue maps, timelines, trackers, advocacy toolkits and other materials to reflect latest policy and regulatory developments, technological advancements, and market trends

Advocacy Toolkits and Materials:

  • Collaborate closely with Research and Communications teams to develop infographics, presentations, and other resources to support advocacy and engagement efforts
  • Track the performance of advocacy tools, campaigns, and stakeholder outreach, providing regular updates and insights to refine strategies

Stakeholder and Membership Engagement:

  • Develop and manage stakeholder and membership databases to ensure accurate, current, and tailored information for targeted advocacy engagement
  • Maintain up-to-date distribution lists to ensure efficient and accurate communication with Council members and external stakeholder
  • Develop strong relationships with members, policymakers and other external stakeholders (e.g. industry associations, international organizations, think tanks)

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Research, Communications, Marketplace and Operations teams of the Hydrogen Council to ensure policy and advocacy work is grounded in robust data and aligned messaging, and fully integrated with other Council work
  • Collaborate on the organisation of members meetings, events and other activities to support the work of the Council’s policy and advocacy workstream

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in similar roles within government, consulting, industry associations, or the private sector.
  • Education: Postgraduate degree in Political Science, Environmental Studies, International Relations, Communication, or a related field.
  • Languages: Native-equivalent or full professional proficiency in English. Additional languages are a plus.
  • Policy knowledge: Familiarity with hydrogen-related policy frameworks, energy market trends, and relevant legislative landscapes.
  • Technical proficiency: Excellent command of MS Office; experience with project management and collaboration tools is desirable.
  • Advanced writing and presentation design skills: Experience in data visualisation and passion for crafting clear, impactful messages and materials tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail: Comfortable managing complex tasks, processes, databases, ensuring high levels of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Professional conduct: Diplomatic, discreet, and tactful in all interactions. Capable of representing the Hydrogen Council and its leadership with integrity, maintaining positive relationships with both members and external stakeholders.
  • Team player: Collaborative, adaptable, and able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and members to achieve shared objectives.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural, and hybrid work environment. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively across different time zones and adapt to varying work requirements.
  • Service mindset: Strong fit for a membership-based organization with a demonstrated ability to thrive in a member-driven trade group (or a similar multistakeholder) environment.
  • Flexibility: Given the Council’s global nature with member companies across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, reasonable flexibility is required for accommodating meeting times and fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel, depending on the candidate’s location.

Other information

  • Contract type: full-time employee.
  • Expected start date: as soon as available. Please indicate potential earliest start date and notice length (if applicable).
  • Remuneration: competitive, based on experience.
  • Location: hybrid position, with a preference for candidates in or close to Central European (CET) time zone and with the ability to travel to Brussels and work with the Hydrogen Council team in person on agreed occasions.
