The role sits at the centre of the Hydrogen Council’s day-to-day communications activities, offering a unique opportunity to strengthen the Council’s digital presence, support internal engagement, drive high-impact communications campaigns, and contribute to how hydrogen is understood as a critical enabler of a more secure, resilient and competitive energy future, across global audiences.
We are looking for a digitally savvy, creative and highly organised communications professional with strong editorial instincts, excellent writing skills and a proactive mindset.
As the (Senior) Communications Officer, you will report to the Senior Communications Manager and work closely with our global team based across Belgium, Germany, Spain and the UK, as well as our member companies, partners and vendors around the world.
Key responsibilities
Digital Communications and Editorial Planning
- Lead day-to-day management of the Hydrogen Council’s digital channels, including LinkedIn, website and external newsletters.
- Develop, maintain and coordinate a structured content calendar aligned with organisational priorities, campaigns, events and industry developments.
- Coordinate publishing schedules and ensure timely, consistent and high-quality delivery of communications across channels.
- Support website development and ongoing optimisation, including content updates, structure and user experience considerations.
Content Creation and Storytelling
- Draft a wide range of communications materials, including LinkedIn posts, newsletters, website copy, press materials, executive briefing documents, speaking materials and member communications.
- Contribute to the development of thought leadership content, including op-eds
- Coordinate the creation of visual and multimedia content together with external agencies.
- Help showcase member projects, industry developments and Hydrogen Council initiatives through clear, compelling storytelling.
Monitoring, Analytics and Insights
- Monitor media and social media developments across the hydrogen and energy landscape to identify trends, emerging narratives and content opportunities.
- Support the use of monitoring and listening tools such as Brandwatch, Factiva and digital analytics platforms to track communications performance and audience engagement.
- Produce regular insights and analytics reports to help inform communications planning and decision-making.
- Translate monitoring findings and performance data into practical recommendations to strengthen communications impact and audience reach.
Member Engagement and Communications Operations
- Support the Hydrogen Council’s Communications Committee activities and help coordinate regular meetings and taskforces.
- Work directly with communications leads across member companies to support coordination, amplification and alignment around key initiatives.
- Manage key internal communications activities, including member newsletters and townhalls.
- Support the Council’s external events and media engagement.
- Help manage communications systems and operational tools, including shared mailboxes, media lists, distribution lists and internal resources.
- Collaborate closely with the Hydrogen Council’s Research, Advocacy, Marketplace, Operations and Events workstreams on communications-related initiatives.

Qualifications and skills
- Experience: 4-8 years of experience in similar roles.
- Education: University degree in communications or a related field.
- Languages: Native-equivalent or full professional proficiency in English. Additional languages are a plus.
- Writing and content creation: Excellent writing and editing skills in English, with experience creating engaging content across digital channels, including LinkedIn, websites, newsletters and executive communications materials.
- Digital communications: Strong understanding of social media platforms, digital content formats and editorial planning. Experience managing content calendars and coordinating multi-channel communications activities is highly valued.
- Analytics and monitoring: Interest in communications performance, audience engagement and industry trends. Familiarity with tools such as Brandwatch, Factiva, Google Analytics or LinkedIn analytics is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and ownership: Highly organized, proactive with great attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment. Solution-oriented approach, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Team player: Collaborative, adaptable, and able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and members to achieve shared objectives.
- Stakeholder engagement: Collaborative and professional, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, member companies, agencies and senior stakeholders across international environments.
- Issue knowledge: Interest in energy transition topics and global industry developments. Familiarity with hydrogen and related sectors is a plus.
- Professional conduct: Diplomacy, discretion, tact and ability to represent the Council and its leadership towards members as well as external stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural, and hybrid work environment. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively across different time zones and adapt to varying work requirements.
- Service mindset: Strong fit for a membership-based organization with a demonstrated ability to thrive in an member-driven trade group environment.
- Flexibility: Given the Council’s global nature with member companies across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, reasonable flexibility is required for accommodating meeting times and fostering collaborative relationships.
- Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally, depending on the candidate’s location.
Other information
- Contract type: full-time employee.
- Expected start date: as soon as available. Please indicate potential earliest start date and notice length (if applicable).
- Remuneration: competitive, based on experience.
- Location: hybrid position, with a preference for candidates in or close to Central European (CET) time zone and with the ability to travel to Brussels and work with the Hydrogen Council team in person on agreed occasions.
