Prenons l\u2019exemple des premi\u00e8res voitures \u00e9lectriques, des premiers panneaux solaires et m\u00eame des premi\u00e8res \u00e9oliennes. Ces projets ont commenc\u00e9 comme des projets relativement mineurs. Mais aujourd\u2019hui, chaque technologie est consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme un \u00e9l\u00e9ment cl\u00e9 du r\u00e9seau \u00e9lectrique moderne. L\u2019\u00e9nergie hydrog\u00e8ne suit un chemin similaire, avec de nouveaux projets pilotes au potentiel \u00e9norme \u2013 notamment une initiative in\u00e9dite en son genre qui a r\u00e9cemment \u00e9t\u00e9 mise en service juste au nord de Toronto, au Canada.<\/p><p>C&#039;est l\u00e0 qu&#039;Enbridge Gas et ses partenaires 2G Energy et CEM Engineering ont install\u00e9, en collaboration, un syst\u00e8me de cog\u00e9n\u00e9ration \u00e0 l&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne, un projet pionnier en Am\u00e9rique du Nord. L&#039;objectif est d&#039;utiliser l&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne produit \u00e0 partir du r\u00e9seau \u00e9lectrique provincial pour r\u00e9pondre jusqu&#039;\u00e0 92% des besoins en \u00e9lectricit\u00e9 et jusqu&#039;\u00e0 58% de la charge de chauffage du centre d&#039;exploitation technologique (TOC) d&#039;Enbridge, d&#039;une superficie de 120 000 pieds carr\u00e9s, \u00e0 Markham, en Ontario.<sup>1<\/sup>.<\/p><p>\u00ab Hydrog\u00e8ne \u00e0 faible teneur en carbone<sup>2 <\/sup>\u00ab Le gaz naturel est une alternative \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique plus propre au gaz naturel qui pourrait d\u00e9carboner divers secteurs \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Aqeel Zaidi, directeur du d\u00e9veloppement technologique chez Enbridge Gas. \u00ab Nous estimons que l\u2019utilisation de la chaleur r\u00e9siduelle du syst\u00e8me de cog\u00e9n\u00e9ration situ\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019usine de conversion d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 en gaz d\u2019Enbridge \u00e0 Markham pourrait remplacer jusqu\u2019\u00e0 74 000 m\u00e8tres cubes de gaz naturel par an utilis\u00e9s dans les chaudi\u00e8res et r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre sur place d\u2019environ 143 tonnes m\u00e9triques par an.<sup>3<\/sup>C&#039;est la quantit\u00e9 \u00e9quivalente de gaz naturel consomm\u00e9e par environ 32 foyers par an, selon la taille et l&#039;emplacement.<sup>4<\/sup>.\u201d<\/p><p>Plus important encore, le syst\u00e8me servira de preuve de concept pour un syst\u00e8me de cog\u00e9n\u00e9ration flexible pouvant fonctionner \u00e0 l&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne, au gaz naturel ou \u00e0 une combinaison des deux. C&#039;est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment le type d&#039;exp\u00e9rience et d&#039;innovation qui pourrait s&#039;av\u00e9rer crucial dans la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique au sens large.<\/p><p>Le TOC d&#039;Enbridge est un mini-p\u00f4le d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne, qui abrite la premi\u00e8re installation de conversion d&#039;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 en gaz en Am\u00e9rique du Nord, le premier projet de m\u00e9lange et d\u00e9sormais le premier syst\u00e8me de cog\u00e9n\u00e9ration \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne du continent. Voici un aper\u00e7u d\u00e9taill\u00e9 du syst\u00e8me :<\/p><ul><li>Syst\u00e8me de cog\u00e9n\u00e9ration de 115 kW fourni par 2G Energy :<ul><li>Groupe \u00e9lectrog\u00e8ne \u00e0 moteur alternatif avec syst\u00e8me de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration de chaleur et autres \u00e9quipements auxiliaires.<\/li><li>Int\u00e9gr\u00e9 \u00e0 la boucle de chauffage de l&#039;eau chaude du b\u00e2timent.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Capable de fonctionner avec de l&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne 100% (H2) ou du gaz naturel 100% (GN) et des m\u00e9langes de gaz H2\/GN.<\/li><li>Peut basculer compl\u00e8tement entre l&#039;un ou l&#039;autre carburant en environ trois minutes.<\/li><li>Livr\u00e9 sous forme de package plug and play conteneuris\u00e9.<\/li><li>Empreinte au sol : 9,6 mx 3 m<\/li><li>Contr\u00f4le des NOx :<ul><li>Aucune r\u00e9duction catalytique s\u00e9lective (SCR) n\u2019est n\u00e9cessaire lors de la combustion d\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne.<\/li><li>SCR requis pour le chauffage au gaz.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p>Pour le projet, 2G Energy a fabriqu\u00e9 et fourni l&#039;unit\u00e9 et CEM Engineering a fourni les conseils techniques et la supervision de la construction. Les technologies qui exploitent l\u2019infrastructure existante \u2013 capables d\u2019\u00eatre \u00e0 la fois compl\u00e9mentaires et ind\u00e9pendantes du r\u00e9seau \u00e9lectrique principal \u2013 sont essentielles pour une adoption plus large. Mais ces syst\u00e8mes doivent \u00eatre test\u00e9s sur le terrain pour identifier et r\u00e9soudre les probl\u00e8mes qui surviennent in\u00e9vitablement avec tout nouveau m\u00e9canisme.<\/p><p>En bref, ce syst\u00e8me de cog\u00e9n\u00e9ration \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne doit d\u00e9montrer ses capacit\u00e9s et ce sera la t\u00e2che \u00e0 accomplir au cours des prochains mois. \u00c0 mesure que ce projet avance, il faudra continuer \u00e0 mobiliser ceux qui cherchent des solutions pour atteindre les objectifs de r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions de carbone. Les transitions \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques n\u00e9cessitent un soutien public durable. Les prochaines questions importantes concernent non seulement la faisabilit\u00e9 technologique, mais aussi les priorit\u00e9s. Les politiques publiques doivent encourager un cadre r\u00e9glementaire et des structures incitatives qui conduisent \u00e0 une adoption plus large de ces solutions innovantes et durables.<\/p><p><em><sup>1<\/sup> Calculs bas\u00e9s sur la consommation \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique historique du TOC.<\/em><\/p><p><em><sup>2<\/sup> Toute description de l&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne comme \u00e9tant \u00ab \u00e0 faible teneur en carbone \u00bb est une comparaison avec le gaz naturel. Comme indiqu\u00e9 dans le <a href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/PDF\/SOR-2022-140.pdf\">R\u00e8glement sur les carburants propres du gouvernement du Canada<\/a>, l&#039;intensit\u00e9 carbone du gaz naturel est de 68 gCO2e\/MJ ( Pg 2800) et l&#039;intensit\u00e9 carbone de l&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne doit \u00eatre inf\u00e9rieure \u00e0 61 gCO<sub>2<\/sub>e\/MJ (Pg 2658) doit \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un carburant \u00e0 faible intensit\u00e9 de carbone qui remplace le gaz naturel.<a href=\"#_ftnref3\" name=\"_ftn3\"><\/a><\/em><\/p><p><em><sup>3 <\/sup>Le CO<sub>2<\/sub>Les \u00e9conomies (GES) sont bas\u00e9es sur l&#039;utilisation finale et incluent les hypoth\u00e8ses et calculs suivants : 74 000 m<sup>3<\/sup>\/an de gaz naturel multipli\u00e9 par
