La energ\u00eda del hidr\u00f3geno va por un camino similar, con nuevos proyectos piloto que ofrecen un enorme potencial, incluida una iniciativa pionera que se puso en marcha recientemente al norte de Toronto, Canad\u00e1.<\/p><p>All\u00ed, trabajando en colaboraci\u00f3n, Enbridge Gas y sus socios 2G Energy y CEM Engineering han instalado un sistema de cogeneraci\u00f3n (CHP) alimentado con hidr\u00f3geno, un proyecto pionero para Norteam\u00e9rica. El objetivo es utilizar el hidr\u00f3geno producido a partir de la red el\u00e9ctrica provincial para cubrir hasta 92% de las necesidades el\u00e9ctricas y hasta 58% de la carga t\u00e9rmica del Centro de Operaciones Tecnol\u00f3gicas (TOC) de 120.000 pies cuadrados de Enbridge en Markham, Ontario.<sup>1<\/sup>.<\/p><p>\u201cHidrogenado con menor contenido de carbono<sup>2 <\/sup>\u201cEs una alternativa energ\u00e9tica m\u00e1s limpia al gas natural que podr\u00eda descarbonizar varios sectores\u201d, afirm\u00f3 Aqeel Zaidi, gerente de Desarrollo Tecnol\u00f3gico de Enbridge Gas. \u201cEstimamos que el uso del calor residual del sistema de cogeneraci\u00f3n ubicado en la instalaci\u00f3n Power-to-Gas de Enbridge en Markham podr\u00eda desplazar hasta 74.000 metros c\u00fabicos de gas natural al a\u00f1o utilizados en las calderas y reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero en el sitio en aproximadamente 143 toneladas m\u00e9tricas al a\u00f1o\u201d.<sup>3<\/sup>Esa es la cantidad equivalente de gas natural que consumen aproximadamente 32 hogares por a\u00f1o, dependiendo del tama\u00f1o y la ubicaci\u00f3n.<sup>4<\/sup>.\u201d<\/p><p>M\u00e1s importante a\u00fan, el sistema servir\u00e1 como prueba de concepto para un sistema de cogeneraci\u00f3n flexible que pueda funcionar con hidr\u00f3geno, gas natural o combinaciones de ambos. Es precisamente el tipo de experiencia e innovaci\u00f3n que podr\u00eda resultar fundamental en la transici\u00f3n energ\u00e9tica m\u00e1s amplia.<\/p><p>El Centro de Conversi\u00f3n de Energ\u00eda de Enbridge es un minicentro de hidr\u00f3geno que alberga la primera instalaci\u00f3n Power-to-Gas de Norteam\u00e9rica, el primer proyecto de mezcla y ahora el primer sistema de cogeneraci\u00f3n de hidr\u00f3geno del continente. Las tecnolog\u00edas que aprovechan la infraestructura existente (capaz de ser complementaria e independiente de la red el\u00e9ctrica principal) son clave para su adopci\u00f3n m\u00e1s amplia. Pero estos sistemas deben probarse en el campo para identificar y resolver los problemas que inevitablemente surgen con cualquier mecanismo nuevo.<\/p><p>En resumen, este sistema de cogeneraci\u00f3n de hidr\u00f3geno debe demostrar sus capacidades y esa ser\u00e1 la tarea que se llevar\u00e1 a cabo en los pr\u00f3ximos meses. A medida que este proyecto avance, ser\u00e1 necesario que quienes buscan soluciones para alcanzar los objetivos de reducci\u00f3n de carbono sigan participando. Las transiciones energ\u00e9ticas requieren un apoyo p\u00fablico sostenido. Las pr\u00f3ximas preguntas importantes no solo tienen que ver con la viabilidad tecnol\u00f3gica, sino tambi\u00e9n con las prioridades. Las pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas deben fomentar un marco regulatorio y estructuras de incentivos que conduzcan a una adopci\u00f3n m\u00e1s amplia de este tipo de soluciones innovadoras y sostenibles.<\/p><p><em><sup>1<\/sup> C\u00e1lculos basados en el consumo hist\u00f3rico de energ\u00eda para el TOC.<\/em><\/p><p><em><sup>2<\/sup> Cualquier lenguaje que describa al hidr\u00f3geno como &quot;menor en carbono&quot; se refiere al gas natural. Como se indica en el <a href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/PDF\/SOR-2022-140.pdf\">Reglamento sobre combustibles limpios del Gobierno de Canad\u00e1<\/a>, la intensidad de carbono del gas natural es de 68 gCO2e\/MJ (Pg 2800) y la intensidad de carbono del hidr\u00f3geno debe ser inferior a 61 gCO<sub>2<\/sub>e\/MJ (Pg 2658) para ser considerado un combustible de baja intensidad de carbono que desplaza al gas natural.<a href=\"#_ftnref3\" name=\"_ftn3\"><\/a><\/em><\/p><p><em><sup>3 <\/sup>El CO<sub>2<\/sub>Los ahorros de GEI se basan en el uso final e incluyen los siguientes supuestos y c\u00e1lculos: 74.000 m<sup>3<\/sup>\/a\u00f1o de gas natural multiplicado por el factor de emisi\u00f3n de gas natural de 0,0019313 tCO<sub>2<\/sub>yo\/yo<sup>3<\/sup> gas natural
