Job Opportunity: Senior Research Officer

The Hydrogen Council is recruiting for an experienced Senior Research Officer to join our growing Research team.

The Hydrogen Council, the global CEO-led initiative comprising the world’s leading companies and investors in hydrogen, is recruiting for a highly motivated Senior Research Officer to contribute to its mission.

As the Senior Research Officer, you will work report to the Head of Research and work closely with the Research team of the Hydrogen Council as well as support the organisation’s global team based out of Canada, UK, Belgium and Germany.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify, gather, structure and interpret relevant data sources.
  • Create databases, develop economic models and undertook analysis using data from Hydrogen Council members and external sources.
  • Partner with Hydrogen Council members and external stakeholders across the industry to deliver analytical support. This will involve various analysis techniques (e.g., statistical, forecasting, cost-benefit).
  • Transform data and results into easy-to-use formats for Hydrogen Council members and stakeholders.
  • Develop report/outlooks and effectively communicate analysis and recommendations to stakeholders, shaping the narrative around key findings.
  • Provide analytical support to the Policy, Communications and Marketplace team of the Hydrogen Council and collaborate with other relevant work streams as needed.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience: at least 8-10 years of experience in similar roles.
  • Education: University degree with engineering background.
  • Languages: Excellent communication skills in English and at least one other language.
  • Technical proficiency: Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand complex issues. Experience with energy-related data structures, such as time series aggregation Experience in energy system and modelling (hourly system model, eg: Plexos Energy Modelling Software), scenario analysis.
  • Issue knowledge: Excellent knowledge of the energy sector (power & gas). Understanding of the role of hydrogen in the future energy mix and Power-to-X technologies.
  • Team player: Collaborative, adaptable, and able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and members to achieve shared objectives.
  • Advanced communications and presentation design skills: Proven ability to distil actionable insights from complex data sets and to express ideas clearly and succinctly. Experience in data visualisation a strong plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail: Ability to work independently and in a structured way, with great attention to detail. Solution- and process-oriented approach, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Professional conduct: Diplomacy, discretion, tact and ability to represent the Council and its leadership towards members as well as external stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural, and hybrid work environment. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively across different time zones and adapt to varying work requirements.
  • Service mindset: Strong fit for a membership-based organization with a demonstrated ability to thrive in an member-driven trade group environment.
  • Flexibility: Given the Council’s global nature with member companies across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, reasonable flexibility is required for accommodating meeting times and fostering collaborative relationships.

Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally, depending on the candidate’s location

Other information

  • Contract type: full-time employee
  • Expected start date: as soon as available. Please indicate potential earliest start date and notice length (if applicable).
  • Remuneration: competitive, based on experience
  • Location: hybrid position, with a preference for candidates in or close to Central European (CET) time zone and with the ability to travel to Brussels and work with the Hydrogen Council team in person on agreed occasions.
