Job Opportunity: Senior Policy & Advocacy Officer

The Hydrogen Council is recruiting for an experienced Senior Policy & Advocacy Officer to support our policy and advocacy engagements.

The Hydrogen Council, the global CEO-led initiative comprising the world’s leading businesses and investors in hydrogen, is recruiting for a highly motivated Senior Policy & Advocacy Officer to contribute to its mission.

As Senior Policy & Advocacy Officer, you will work closely with the Head of Policy & Advocacy at the Hydrogen Council and collaborate with the organisation’s global team based out of Canada, UK, Belgium and Germany.

Key responsibilities

Support Hydrogen Council’s policy and advocacy engagements, in particular:

Preparation of advocacy toolkits and materials:

  • Leverage storytelling techniques and data visualizations to simplify complex concepts and design effective advocacy toolkits tailored to senior policymakers, industry leaders, and public stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with research and communication teams to develop infographics, presentations, and other resources to support advocacy and engagement efforts.
  • Track the performance of advocacy tools, campaigns, and stakeholder outreach, providing regular updates and insights to refine strategies.

Advocacy campaign design:

  • Support delivery of tailored advocacy campaigns, to ensure advocacy efforts are executed effectively and on time.
  • Support planning, coordination, and monitoring of campaign progress.

Resource updates and policy monitoring:

  • Update advocacy toolkits and materials as appropriate to reflect the latest policy and regulatory developments, technological advancements, and market trends.
  • Monitor relevant global policy and legislative developments based on the Council priority focus areas.

Stakeholder and membership engagement:

  • Oversee the development, management, and updating of stakeholder and membership databases to ensure accurate, current, and tailored information for targeted advocacy engagement.
  • Maintain up-to-date distribution lists to ensure efficient and accurate communication with Council members and external stakeholders.

Cross-functional collaboration:

  • Work closely with research, communications, and member engagement teams to ensure policy and advocacy work is grounded in robust data and aligned messaging.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience: 5-8 years of experience in similar roles within government, consulting, industry associations, or the private sector.
  • Education: Postgraduate degree in Political Science, Environmental Studies, International Relations, Communication, or a related field.
  • Languages: Native-equivalent or full professional proficiency in English. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
  • Team player: Collaborative, adaptable, and able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and members to achieve shared objectives.
  • Advanced writing and presentation design skills: Strong experience in data visualisation and passion for crafting clear, impactful messages and materials tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Policy knowledge: Familiarity with hydrogen-related policy frameworks, energy market trends, and relevant legislative landscapes.
  • Technical proficiency: Excellent command of MS Office; experience with project management and collaboration tools is desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail: Comfortable managing complex tasks, processes, databases, ensuring high levels of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Professional conduct: Diplomatic, discreet, and tactful in all interactions. Capable of representing the Hydrogen Council and its leadership with integrity, maintaining positive relationships with both members and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural, and hybrid work environment. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively across different time zones and adapt to varying work requirements.
  • Service mindset: Strong fit for a membership-based organization with a demonstrated ability to thrive in a member-driven trade group environment.
  • Flexibility: Given the Council’s global nature with member companies across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, reasonable flexibility is required for accommodating meeting times and fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel up to 20-30%, depending on the candidate’s location.

Other information

  • Contract type: full-time employee
  • Expected start date: as soon as available. Please indicate potential earliest start date and notice length (if applicable).
  • Remuneration: competitive, based on experience
  • Location: hybrid position, with a preference for candidates in or close to Central European (CET) time zone and with the ability to travel to Brussels and work with the Hydrogen Council team in person on agreed occasions.
