What changes have you seen within the hydrogen ecosystem and community in the past year?

Hydrogen as a fuel for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) and as an energy carrier is gaining momentum in China, starting with commercial vehicles and 35 MPa refueling. Soon, hydrogen generated from various renewable sources and as a byproduct will become available in large quantities. Great Wall Motors has started developing fuel cell electric passenger cars and has initiated R&D on hydrogen generation and refueling.

过去一年里,您在氢能生态系统和氢能源领域看到了哪些变化?

氢作为燃料电池电动汽车(FCEV)所加注的燃料,以及一种能源载体,其当前在中国正以商用车和35MPa加氢的方式得到越来越多的推广运用。很快,从各种可再生能源制取的氢气和作为工业副产品所得的氢气,都将得到更大批量的发展。长城汽车已开始进行氢燃  料电池乘用车的研发,以及在制氢、加氢技术方面的探索。

What hydrogen related innovation, application or technology makes you most excited for the future?

Hydrogen will become a key element of future mobility and energy systems. There is no single innovation that excites me most. What I find particularly exciting is the opportunity to create a full, new value chain interlinking renewable energy and emission-free mobility. This opportunity is very compelling and motivating.

在与氢相关的创新、运用或技术中,什么最让您感到兴奋?

氢能源将在未来的交通出行和能源系统中扮演核心角色。目前并没有哪一种创新技术最让我感到兴奋,但最令我期待的是氢能为我们带来的巨大的机遇,那就是打造一条将可再生能源与零排放车辆紧密结合的全新产业链,这样的前景令人振奋。

Are there any recent or upcoming hydrogen related milestones in your company that you are especially proud of?

This year we are putting our new Hydrogen Technology R&D Center into operation. It is a unique facility combining prototyping and testing capabilities for all key components of the FCEV drive system. We will, for example, be able to prototype and test our own MEAs (Membrane Electrode Assembly), fuel cell stacks and systems, hydrogen storage vessels, and balance of plant components. Furthermore, we can develop and test refueling processes and validate our technologies in our FCEVs on the testing grounds nearby. In the future, we may even add our own hydrogen generation from renewable energy onsite, producing clean hydrogen ourselves. These fully integrated hydrogen R&D capabilities are novel in China and represent a very exciting step in our Great Wall Motors initiative.

您的公司在过去或未来短时期内,是否有与氢相关的重要事件,使您感到格外自豪?

今年,我们新建的氢能技术中心逐渐投入运行。这是一座集试验、测试和试制能力于一体,几乎涵盖FCEV动力系统所有核心部件的独特设施。例如,我们将在这里试制并测试长城汽车自己的MEA(膜电极)、燃料电池堆及系统、储氢罐等。从而,我们可进一步开 发并测试加 氢技术,并在试验中心附近的场地上进行FCEV各项技术的测试和验证。未来,我们还计划在现场搭建可再生能源制氢设备,以展示清洁能源的理念。这些在国内处于领先的氢能技术研发能力,是长城汽车在氢能领域迈出的重要而令人兴奋的一步。

Which area of hydrogen development and deployment is your company investing in currently?

We are currently ramping up our fuel cell and hydrogen storage as well as refueling R&D. Our new Hydrogen Technology R&D Center will enable us to prototype and test our own FCEVs. In the future we will intensify our R&D efforts in hydrogen generation and hydrogen refueling stations. Quick refueling of FCEVs and a cost-efficient hydrogen refueling infrastructure are key enablers for hydrogen mobility. We must guarantee that we have the most reliable, safest and cost-competitive refueling stations for our FCEVs in China.

您的公司当前正投资于哪些氢能源开发及运用的领域?

我们当前开展的研发工作包括燃料电池、储氢以及加氢技术。随着氢能技术中心的建成使用,我们将有能力试制和测试自己的FCEV车辆。未来,我们还将进一步加强制氢及加氢站方面的研发。要想实现氢能汽车的普及,迅速便捷的加氢技术和极具成本效率的  加氢基础设施,将起到决定性作用。为推动FCEV在中国市场的普及,我们必须确保推行最可靠、最安全和最具成本竞争力的加氢站技术。

What has been the highlight of your Hydrogen Council membership so far?

As Great Wall Motors is a relatively new member of this honorable Hydrogen Council, I have only had the pleasure to take part in the most recent event in China in person. However, our Great Wall Motors hydrogen team has already taken part in the recent event in Korea and I am looking forward to supporting future Hydrogen Council activities such as the Annual CEO event.

加入氢能委员会至今,贵公司作为委员会成员经历了哪些成功时刻?

长城汽车很荣幸成为氢能委员会最新成员之一。作为新人,此次在清华大学举办的“氢能产业发展创新论坛”仅是我参加的首个委员会举办的活动。但是,我公司的氢能团队已在今年初前往参与过在韩国首尔举行的会议。而我本人也期待能在未来有机会为 氢能委员会开展的活动贡献力量。

What, in your opinion, is the biggest challenge for hydrogen in the near future, and how would you like to see it tackled?

So far, most of the FCEV passenger cars have been conversion designs of conventional vehicles. To make FCEV passenger cars attractive in performance and cost, we need to go a different way and develop more efficient and attractive products. Moreover, we need to look carefully at the issue of refueling station design. Hydrogen refueling stations for large cities in China must come with a small footprint as well as with safe and reliable technologies. We believe that liquid hydrogen as a feedstock for such stations will play a major role in China’s and eventually the world’s hydrogen future.

在您看来,氢能源在短期未来所面临的最大挑战是什么?我们又应该如何克服?

目前为止,绝大多数燃料电池汽车仍是从传统汽车改造而成。要使燃料电池乘用车在性能和成本方面具备吸引力,需要采取全新的方案,开发出效率更高、更具竞争力的产品。同时,我们也应当谨慎地选择加氢站的设计思路。在中国的大城市里进行加氢站  基础设施建设,必须遵循占地面积小、技术安全可靠的原则。我们相信,液氢技术将在未来中国(乃至世界)的氢能未来中扮演关键的角色。

What positive indicators for hydrogen deployment have you seen recently and what is your take on the impact they may have?

FCEVs are becoming a reality. In China, thousands of fuel cell buses and trucks have already been assembled. Other countries already see FCEV passenger cars being rolled out in similar quantities. Hydrogen fuel might be introduced into many additional applications soon, in the world as well as in China. These will include material handling vehicles of different kinds and even aerial vehicles used in a variety of applications. In addition, there will be a strong link to hydrogen as large-scale or even small-scale decentralized energy storage. We see huge potential for various hydrogen applications in the future.

您在近期看到过哪些推动氢能运用的积极信号?您认为其将带来怎样的影响?

FCEV正在成为现实。在中国,已有数千辆燃料电池大巴和运输车被组装下线。而在其他一些国家,售出的燃料电池乘用车也突破了千辆。很快,无论在中国还是世界其他国家,氢作为一种燃料载体将被运用于越来越多的领域。由氢能提供动力的机器将不仅包  括物料运输车这样的传统机械,也包括飞行器等新兴科技产品。此外,氢还能作为能量储存方案,为人们实现分散化能量储存。我们也将这一领域的运用视为氢能在未来的巨大潜力。

What do you think the biggest misconception is around hydrogen right now?

Hydrogen in the mind of many people is still a hazardous chemical. However, in reality hydrogen has many safety advantages. It is light and volatile and does not accumulate easily near ground level. Safety incidents with hydrogen as a fuel can be expected to become very rare, for example. Liquid hydrogen, which can be stored at close to ambient pressure, can make hydrogen fuel delivery and stationary storage extremely safe options.

在您看来,当前人们对于氢气最大的错误认知是什么?

在很多人的认知中,仍将氢看做一种有害流体。但实际上,氢具备很多安全优势。它是最轻的气体,极易挥发,很难在靠近地面的层面对其进行收集。例如,因氢气燃烧而造成的意外事故非常罕见。而液体状态下,氢的压力与大气压基本相同,这将为我们 带来 安全度极高的氢运输和储存方案。

Are there any inspiring or exciting hydrogen related projects going on outside of your company, or with your partners, that you would like to tell us about?

We see many interesting hydrogen projects evolving these days. We as Great Wall Motors want to be at the forefront and develop leading hydrogen technologies. That is why we have partnered with strong international companies already. I cannot give you details on these confidential activities now, but we are confident that we can show interesting first results soon.

在您的公司开展的工作之外,有哪些第三方或您的合作方开展的氢能相关的项目令人振奋?您是否有兴趣向我们做一介绍?

当前与氢能相关的活动非常火热。从长城汽车的立场出发,我们希望掌握最领先的氢能技术。为实现这样的愿景,我们已经与领先的国际企业展开合作。我当前并不方便透露这些保密合作的具体细节,但我相信在不久以后,我们将看到长城汽车的第一批可  向公众展示的研发成果。

If you could describe the future of hydrogen in one sentence, what would you say?

“Hydrogen will provide a sustainable world with clean mobility and energy to protect both the natural environment and future generations.”

如果要用一句话描述氢的未来,您会说些什么?

“氢是这个世界上最丰富的元素。氢能源将帮助我们实现清洁出行和可持续能源供给,为我们的下一代保护我们的地球环境。”

If the sky was the limit, what action would you like the Council to take?

To pave the way for the successful adoption of hydrogen as a fuel and energy carrier, with support from governments worldwide, making the Hydrogen Council a central voice for the future hydrogen economy.
